U.S. indices advanced as U.S. retail sales gained more than forecast in July, which at 0.8 % marked the biggest increase since February, followed other data on housing and jobs have raised hopes that a sooner than expected economic slowdown may prove to be temporary.

European indices advanced as well, coming back from a two-day decline, as a better-than expected news from Germany showed that growth slowed less than forecast,  while BOJ minutes uncovered that several Bank of Japan policy makers are ready to take action and stimulate the economy.

The DJ30 closed at 13,172.14, gaining 2.71 points (+0.02%), SPX500 closed at 1,403.93, declining 0.18 points (-0.01%) and the NASDAQ closed at 2,727.79, declining 0.89 points
(-0.03%) in today’s trading.

The CAC40 closed at 3,450.27, gaining 23.86 points (+0.70%), FTSE100 closed at 5,864.78, gaining 32.90 points (+0.56%) and DAX40 closed at 6,974.39, gaining 64.71 points (+0.94%).

Apple Inc. (AAPL) shares gained 0.27% to $631.69 in today’s trading session, after its shipments of iPad tablets grew 44 % to 17 million in the second quarter, giving the company its best market share as competitors lost ground.

Facebook Inc. (FB)

The company was cleared by Britain’s Office of Fair Trading to complete its proposed $1 billion purchase of the mobile photo-sharing application company Instagram.
