European and U.S. indices were flat Wednesday, consolidating after a recent strong rally. Investors were waiting in anticipation for the Fed and other central banks to take further stimulus action.
A manufacturing report for the New York area showed worse-than-expected numbers and weaker results from Eurasian Natural Resources, revived hopes for further stimulus of both economies.
The DJ30 closed at 13,163.47, gaining -8.67 points (-0.07%), SPX500 closed at 1,405.51, gaining 1.60 points (+0.11%) and the NASDAQ closed at 2,735.47, gaining 7.68 points (0.28%) in today’s trading.
The CAC40 closed at 3,449.20, gaining -1.07 points (-0.03%), FTSE100 closed at 5,833.04, gaining -31.74 points (-0.54%) and DAX40 closed at 6,946.80, gaining -27.59 points (-0.40%).
Apple Inc. (AAPL) has according to several rumors scheduled an ‘event’ for September 12th, which might be the company’s official launch date for the latest version of the iPhone. While the actual sell-date is still in the dark, repressed demand for the iPhone 5 will certainly give Apple’s sales and earnings a boost. Apple might wait until October – its traditional launch month for new iPhone models – and take the revenue boost in the first quarter of 2013.
On Thursday Facebook Inc. (FB) will face one of the toughest times for a newly public company: the first day that some insiders are allowed to sell the stock. Insiders will be free to sell off about 271 million shares on Thursday. Since its IPO Facebook has lost nearly half its value.
