Daily Equity Prices and Market Overview 23.10.2012
Both European and U.S. indices dropped on Tuesday after weak U.S. corporate earnings results were published. Also several indebted regions of Spain were downgraded, including important and deeply indebted region of Catalonia. Spain borrowing costs jumped up after the downgrade was made by Moody’s. Both these facts raised concerns about the global economy and sent the markets down. Furthermore the Euro slipped to a one-week low against the Dollar.
The DJ30 closed at 13,102.53, declining 243.36 points (-1.82%), SPX500 closed at 1,413.11 declining 20.71 points (-1.44%) and the NASDAQ100 closed at 2,666.02, declining 28.54 points (-1.06%) in today’s trading.
The CAC40 closed at 3,406.50, declining 76.75 points (-2.20%), FTSE100 closed at 5,797.91, declining 85.00 points (-1.44%) and DAX40 closed at 7,173.69, declining 154.36 points (-2.71%).
Today Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s CEO Tim Cook introduced the long awaited, smaller version of the iPad, targeting the low-cost tablet segment. The device boasts a 7.9- inch screen diagonally, compared with the 9.7-inch screen of the current iPad. The price will be starting at $329. By adding another model at a different price, Apple is applying the same multigadget strategy it used to make iPod the top- selling media player. Currently the company has sold more than 100 million iPads since former CEO Steve Jobs introduced the device in January 2010. The introduction of the new iPad comes at a critical time, as its shares have been hit hard since it reached a record high last month.
