U.S. and E.U. indices dropped as investors awaited the actions of the Fed and the European Central Bank in the next upcoming days. The big question among investors was what measures will be taken to stimulate their respective economies. Furthermore an additional 123,000 people were out of work in the euro zone in June, a further sign that the euro zone is in need of immediate action, as doubt over the prospect of bold ECB action set in and Berlin repeated its opposition to a banking license for the rescue fund.
The DJ30 closed at 13,012.46, declining 60.55 points (-0.46%), SPX500 closed at 1,379.33, declining 5.98 points (-0.43%) and the NASDAQ closed at 2,642.53 gaining 0.41 points (+0.02%) in today’s trading.
The CAC40 closed at 3,291.66, declining 29.05 points (-0.87%), FTSE100 closed at 5,635.28 declining 58.35 points (-1.02%) and DAX40 closed at 6,772.26 declining 1.80 points (-0.03%).
Apple Inc. (AAPL) is preparing to launch the long anticipated iPhone 5 on Sept. 12 in what will be a complete design change of its top-selling product. The design overhaul will be Apple’s first since it introduced its best-selling smartphone, iPhone 4 in 2010. Today Apple Inc. (AAPL) gained 15.73 points, closing in at 610.73 breaking the 600 level again.
Facebook Inc. (FB) dropped -6.22 % to a record low, after the largest social-networking service disappointed investors as the reported second-quarter results showed slowing growth.
