ETFs are managed by asset management companies that have their own strategies and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etoro.com\/investing\/risk-management\/\">risk management <\/a>philosophies when it comes to investing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s essential to research the asset management company, as well as its individual portfolio managers, to ensure that you&#8217;re comfortable with their strategies and performance track record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions to ask about ETF management include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-block-list wp-block-list-circle\">\n<li><strong>How long have they been around? <\/strong>&nbsp;ETF providers that have been around longer may have deeper expertise in managing ETFs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do they specialize in certain types of ETFs? <\/strong>&nbsp;Some ETF providers specialize in specific types of ETFs, such as a specific asset class, sector, or theme. Other related costs to investing in ETFs may include transaction costs, such as brokerage commissions (but remember, there are no commissions to investing in ETFs on eToro).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An ETF\u2019s <strong>expense ratio is typically shown as a percentage<\/strong>. For instance, the average expense ratio of US equity-listed ETFs is 0.53%<sup class=\"inline-annotation\">2<\/sup>. That means for every $100 invested in the average ETF, your cost as an investor would be $0.53 every year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While that doesn\u2019t sound too large, as Samara Cohen, Chief Investment Officer of ETF and Index Investments at BlackRock notes, \u201ceven <em>small differences<\/em> in an expense ratio can make a <em>big difference<\/em> over the long-term.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-disclaimer\"><em><sup class=\"inline-annotation\">2<\/sup>0.53% is the average expense ratio of U.S.-equity listed ETFs.
