And just like that, we\u2019re in the last week of January already! Markets will look to go out in style with a fully-loaded slate of events to watch this week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earnings<\/b><\/h4>\n

The earnings pace is really picking up now, particularly with Big Tech on the board. Tesla<\/a>, Microsoft<\/a>, and Meta<\/a> will report on Wednesday evening, while Apple<\/a> will report on Thursday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also hear from Boeing<\/a>, General Motors<\/a>, and UPS<\/a> on Tuesday, followed by ASML<\/a>, AT&T<\/a>, and Starbucks<\/a> on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Thursday, companies like Visa<\/a>, MasterCard<\/a>, Lockheed Martin<\/a>, SanDisk<\/a>, and Western Digital<\/a> will report, followed by SoFi<\/a>, American Express,<\/a> Verizon<\/a>, Exxon Mobil<\/a> and Chevron<\/a> on Friday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Fed\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n

We typically receive the PCE inflation report this week, but the schedule remains somewhat disrupted due to the government shutdown, and the data was released last week. This week, consumer confidence stands out as a key report on Tuesday, but it\u2019s the Fed\u2019s interest rate decision and press conference that loom largest \u2014 due up on Wednesday at 2 pm ET. <\/span><\/p>\n

With big tech in focus this week, I wanted to take a closer look at AI and the Magnificent 7\u2019s spending spree.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the chart above, Magnificent 7 quarterly capex spending (capital expenditures) is shown in orange, with estimates extending through 2026, alongside the number of times \u201cAI\u201d was mentioned on S&P 500<\/a> conference calls.<\/span><\/p>\n

As shown, discussions around AI have \u2014 unsurprisingly \u2014 accelerated over the past few quarters. This momentum reflects companies increasingly embedding AI into their operations, a trend many bulls expect to continue in 2026 and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Magnificent 7 includes: Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia<\/a>, and Tesla. For those looking at the S&P 500, the <\/span>VOO<\/span><\/a> ETF is the most popular by AUM, while the <\/span>SPY<\/span><\/a> ETF has the largest interest by trading volume (which makes it the more common choice for options traders).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
