Founded in 1972 by Ted Arison, Carnival Corp CCL, previously known as Carnival Cruise Line, is one of the largest cruise and leisure companies in the world. Carnival Corp’s fleet is comprised of over 100 vessels, spread across ten different brands. The company is estimated to control 50% of the global cruise market. Carnival Corp own operations in several countries, including Australia, China, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Carnival Corp, stock symbol CCL, is a dual-listed company on the New York and London stock exchanges. As of 2019, it was the only company that is part of both the S&P 500 and the FTSE 100 indices. Carnival Corp went public for the first time in 1987.
The history of Carnival Corp is riddled with legal infractions. The company was fined $18 million for falsifying oil contamination records in 2002. They were again fined $40 million in 2016 for waste dumping and an additional $20 million for violating their parole in 2019. Despite their sketchy history, the company can take pride in becoming the first cruise line to sail from the United States to Cuba since the American embargo first began.
