The company is engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of graphics processing units (GPUs) for the gaming and professional markets, as well as system on a chip units (SoCs) for the automotive and mobile computing industries. The firm was founded in 1993.

Products that the firm has developed include the Riva 128, which was the world’s first 128-bit processor. Since then, the firm has gone on to partner with Blizzard Entertainment on the release of World of Warcraft in 3D graphics, and with Sony, for whom it developed the processor that powered the Sony PlayStation. NVIDIA technology has also helped NASA to explore Mars, making data transmitted from the Mars Rover photorealistic in virtual reality, and thereby allowing scientists to explore Mars as if from the planet’s surface.

The company has been the recipient of various industry awards and accolades, including being named Most Innovative Company by Fast Company, Best Corporate Citizens by Just 100, and a Global Leader in the area of Best-Performing CEOs by Harvard Business Review.
