Roku was first established in 2002 by the founder of Replay TV. In 2008, the company was incorporated in Sao Paolo, California, and the company’s headquarters are located in San Jose. Roku employs over 800 people and serves customers worldwide.

The company has over 51 million active accounts, with customers based in the US, Canada, the UK, the Republic of Ireland, France, and several Latin American countries. The company’s own branded service – the Roku Channel – is available in North America and the UK. Roku has its own range of hardware for streaming, which includes TVs as well as streaming devices such as Roku Express, Roku Streaming Stick, and Roku Streambar. The Streambar is a streaming player that can upgrade the streaming experience on any TV using Dolby Audio™.

Roku, Inc. shares are traded on the NASDAQ with the ticker ROKU. During 2021, Roku acquired the multi-platform DIY and home enthusiast channel This Old House, as well as former Quibi streaming content.
