Part of the HSBC Group, Hang Seng Bank is one of the largest public companies in Hong Kong. Founded in 1933, Hang Seng Bank provides retail and commercial banking services. The bank started the Hang Seng Index, now considered the region's primary stock index. They established a mainland China subsidiary in 2007, with representation in all major cities in the country.
Hang Seng Bank stock, 0011.HK, is available for trade on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. The bank started the Hang Seng Index in 1969, tracking the movement of Hong Kong’s 50 biggest companies. The combined capitalisation of those companies exceeds 50% of the Hong Kong yearly GDP.
Banking is not the only service provided by Hang Seng Bank. The company also provides investment services in both Hong Kong and China. Since 2007, the company’s headquarters are no longer in Hong Kong, but rather in Shanghai.
