Good day eTorians, it’s an open secret that the USA ($SPX500; $DJ30) is definitely ahead when it comes to digitization and technological process compared to the EU ($EUSTX50). For a reason, the Silicon Valley, with the biggest global technology-companies (e.g. $AAPL (Apple); $GOOG (Alphabet); $FB (Facebook); $MSFT (Microsoft) and so on) is located in the US. There are some European technological indices, for example, the German TecDAX, but they actually cannot really compete with the $NSDQ100, which is the mother of all tech-indices. The main competition meanwhile comes from Asia, as the Chinese economy and tech-sector is developing at an outstanding speed ($BABA (Alibaba); $JD.CH (JD.com); $BIDU (Baidu, Inc.)). The digital infrastructure is splendidly developed within the United States ($SPX500), while the EU (e.g. in $UK100 or $FRA40) seems behindhand in technology and networking developments. Especially Germany ($GER30) seems not to get in pace with the rest of the world, while, on the other side, the Scandinavian countries obtain a leading role when it comes to EU-digitization progress. In January, the EU invested nearly USD 1 billion for a new high-end computing network in the headquarter, mainly for calculation purposes. The main function: increasing the efficiency and collecting data for energy usage, water supply and meteorological data in Europe. Therewith, the dependency from high-speed computing networks abroad (in $China50 and the US), which the EU currently uses, decreased. The industrial digitalization, as we presently can see within the car-producer sector ($TSLA (Tesla Motors, Inc.); $VOW3.DE (Volkswagen AG)) is one key to a competitive economy and industry. Even there, Germany currently stays behind, although some companies like $CON.DE (Continental AG) are working hard on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. The countries, which cannot or do not want to keep pace with this development, may sooner or later get heavily pressurized. To close one’s eyes to this development, won’t actually help. But which companies can really benefit from this in a long-term perspective? Initially, network companies and tech-companies come to mind (e.g. $SAP.DE (SAP AG), $IFX.DE (Infineon Technologies AG); $INT (World Fuel Services Corp); $IBM (IBM)), but also classical semiconductor and board-produces ($AMD (Advanced Micro Devices Inc); $NVDA (NVIDIA Corporation)) and mining companies ($ABX (Barrick Gold); $NEM (Newmont Mining Corp)) may profit. Have a successful week! BB ... Show More
