Hello guys! I've seen on this platform quite a lot of questions about dividends and I wanted to share my thoughts on them and the basic stuff on etoro, with whom is interested. On etoro, you can check whether a company is paying a dividend in the Stats page. Sadly, etoro does not provide a lot of information about this and does not update if the company has cut or raised the dividend. That information, you might want to look up on Yahoo Finance or SeekingAlpha. Let's take $MSFT (Microsoft) as an example: etoro shows that the dividend yield is 1.16%, however if you look it up, all the other sources show it to be 1.22%. Anyway, let's talk about how dividends can be useful on etoro. For $MSFT , that 1.94 means that you get payed 1.94$ for each stock that you own of Microsoft per year. However, this sum is payed quarterly, meaning that you will get a quarter of that (0.485$) every 3 months. This is true for most companies, but some companies, such as $O (Realty Income Corp) , pay them every month. It is also very important to note that you will receive only 70% of that dividend if you hold a buy position in an US asset and 100% if you hold a buy position in an UK asset. For our example, you will get 70% out of 1.94$ (1.358$) yearly per stock unit. Remember to keep that in mind if you want to build a dividend growth portofolio. On etoro, we do not have, in my opinion, an effective way to track our dividend income. I would love to see a graph, or a tab in which we can see the date when we receive the dividend, and also the company from which we receive it. However, we can see the dividend being funded in your available account and can track it in the fees tab for each stock (as seen in the pictures). It is good to note that etoro does not show the dividend yield for ETFs and BONDS, but they pay it if you hold a dividend paying ETF or BOND. Make sure you look them up! One last thing: If you hold a CFD position (x2 leverage), the dividend payment will be reflected in your available balance on the ex-dividend date. If you hold a position secured with the real asset, you will receive the dividend payment to your available balance on the payment date.
