March was a rough month for markets, with most major indexes falling amid rising fears of tariffs, recession, and stagflation. President Trump’s sweeping tariff announcements, including 25% on autos, caused sharp market swings and left investors in a cautious, risk-off mood.
European defense stocks rallied as countries increased military spending, helping the Euro Stoxx 50 outperform the S&P 500. Meanwhile, institutional investors reduced their exposure to US equities, adding to the divergence.
US consumer sentiment hit multi-year lows, raising concerns about a slowdown in spending. The Fed held interest rates steady, while the ECB cut again. Gold soared past $3,100, copper surprisingly gained 10%, and Bitcoin dipped slightly, ending March at $82,000.
