🦎 Drawdowns Are Debt and Markets Charge Interest 🦎 ✦ Win by Losing Less: The Family Office Rule This is the chart we’re putting in front of our investors this week, and it’s not art, it’s arithmetic. The bars show the cruel asymmetry of markets: losses compound against you. Fall into a -50% drawdown and you need a +100% return just to breathe again. Slip to -60% and the climb becomes +150%. At -80%, recovery turns into fantasy. No wonder the first words that appear in every Buffett interview are: Rule No.1: Don’t lose money. Rule No.2: Don’t forget Rule No.1. ✦ Why Professionals Obsess Over Sharpe Hedge funds and family offices learned this lesson generations ago. That is why they talk less about “how much I made” and more about Sharpe ratios, volatility, and max drawdown. A 1.7 Sharpe strategy, like the kind we target at the core of The Chameleon, is gold for institutions because it means returns are being earned per unit of risk, not per unit of adrenaline. Hedge funds typically lever portfolios with stable Sharpes because they trust the downside is engineered. Family offices often choose not to lever, their priority is endurance. Different vehicles, same religion: respect volatility or it will humble you. ✦ The Chameleon Family Office Analogy We built The Chameleon Smart Portfolio to manage capital the way a thoughtful family office would: • Diversify across regimes so one storm doesn’t sink the ship • Size exposures to a target risk, not to a target ego • Accept that compounding is a marathon guarded by risk control gates We are not chasing insane returns because of what this chart shows. Easy money creates easy losses “easy comes, easy goes”. Portfolios that promise miracles often deliver drawdowns instead. That is why our north star is simple: 👉 Control the drawdowns and the returns will come. Add satellites if you wish: crypto, sectors, tactical bets; just wrap them around a core that respects this asymmetry. Markets reward patience and discipline far more than swagger. The Chameleon adapts, survives, and compounds, steadily, quant, and intentional. Because the alternative is a nasty bar asking for 400% just to get your own money back… and life is too short for that kind of math Have an amazing day! @The-Chameleon 🦎
