I have recently closed out some Precious Metal Positions over the last few weeks. I have now completely closed my positions in $GLD (SPDR Gold) and I have continued to slowly scale out of Positions in $GDX (VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF) and $SLV (iShares Silver Trust) (but both of those I still have some active positions). Gold prices notched another all time high on Monday, crossing the $4,100 an ounce mark for the first time, as renewed US/China trade tensions sent investors flocking to safe haven assets. The surge has been fuelled by strong investment demand amid geopolitical tensions, dollar weakness, US Fed cut expectations, and equity and bond market risks. Although, I think the trend MAY continue for a while, the margin for safety has decreased and the amount of upside available is not as attractive as it was before. Most of my precious metal positions are over +100% up and thus the potential to rise is less than the potential to lose some of the gains. If prices continue to go up, I plan to completely come out of my precious metal positions (probably will keep $PALL (Abrdn Palladium ETF Trust) for a while as more upside is possible as further behind in cycle). I am not trying to time the top as thats impossible but I believe we are much closer to the top than the bottom of the market now for Gold & Silver. I would prefer to use that money for future opportunities which I determine have more upside. Even if I remain patient holding the funds until the right opportunities arise. I am pleased that it performed well for our portfolio and held its purpose as a store of value. But every now and then you need to re-evaluate and do a sanity check to make sure it still make sense to hold it. I still remain a gold and silver long term bull but sometimes you need to hold back and decide when its right to be invested in it and when its not. So I will take a break from holding it until I find it more attractive again. Many Thanks Steven (bees84)
