While the sentiment among international investors towards Chinese stocks still hasn't recovered, it is different for mainland Chinese investors, who continue to buy Chinese internet stocks. Today was another net buy through the Southbound Stock Connect program, and mainland Chinese investors now own 46.96% of the Hang Seng Tech Index ETF, which is an all-time high. We also received some preliminary data from Alibaba's 618 sales event. In the first hour of sales, $BABA (Alibaba-ADR) announced that 28 brands on Tmall sold more than RMB 100 million worth of goods, with $AAPL (Apple) exceeding RMB200 million. In other news from China, The National Energy Association announced plans for additional solar projects, including in the Gobi Desert. However, U.S. listed Chinese solar companies such are down today. I'm not sure why. In the U.S. market, all three major indices are in the red, with the $SPX500 being the worst performing of the three. Even $NVDA (NVIDIA Corporation) is down today, for a change. It isn't a busy earnings week, but there are still companies reporting earnings. One of them is $CPB (Campbell Soup Co) , which will report earnings tomorrow before the market opens. Campbell is more than just a soup company. It has a significant snack division that is growing in both volume and margins.
