Space Portfolio Update Week Ending 2024-09-06 Disclosure: This portfolio is invested in the following companies referenced below – PL (Planet Labs), ASTS (AST SpaceMobile), BAB.L (Babcock International), IRDM (Iridium), BKSY (BlackSky), GILT (Gilat), ETL.PA (Eutelsat), DE (John Deere) Past Week Returns: πŸ”΄ This Portfolio: (-4.56%) πŸ”΄ S&P 500: (-4.25%) tinyurl.com/3xbk8xse πŸ”΄ HSPAP: (-7.17%) tinyurl.com/h5uymjdj Benchmark ETFs πŸ”΄ ARKX: (-5.81%) tinyurl.com/4vkwz5a4 πŸ”΄ ROKT: (-5.18%) tinyurl.com/yt4avxb7 πŸ”΄ ITA: (-5.24%) tinyurl.com/ywxuw5hx πŸ”΄ UFO: (-4.55%) tinyurl.com/2jtkeanw πŸ”΄ Benchmark ETF Average: (-5.20%) 12 Month Returns: 🟒 This Portfolio: 36.48% 🟒 S&P 500: 21.51% 🟒 HSPAP: 14.40% Benchmark ETFs 🟒 ARKX: 0.49% 🟒 ROKT: 12.85% 🟒 ITA: 23.52% πŸ”΄ UFO: (-0.55%) 🟒 Benchmark ETF Average: 9.08% 2 Year Returns: 🟒 This Portfolio: 74.62%* 🟒 S&P 500: 35.89% 🟒 Benchmark ETF Average: 15.35% *Calculated using the same method as our benchmarks – note this can result in a different 2 Year Return to the one reported by eToro at www.etoro.com/people/space-investor Two positions in Planet Labs hit their stop losses and closed at $2.10, after being held for 10 months, which were originally opened at $2.42, for a loss of (-13.22%) - I then rebalanced opening a new 23% smaller position at $1.8099. If the market continues falling I might close other positions at a loss that we’ve held for less than 12 months, partly because we currently have a 972.5% short-term gain from $ASTS (AST SpaceMobile Inc) last month, that we can use to offset short term losses for tax purposes, but any tax loss harvesting will be first and foremost for portfolio risk management purposes rather than tax optimization. I also opened a new position in $BAB.L (Babcock International) for Β£4.68 after tax – I had closed the last of our previous holdings nearly 2 months ago at Β£5.055 allowing us to avoid (-7.4%) losses on the stock. The new position ended the week down (-0.24%) which was less than the 0.5% Stamp Duty Reserve Tax that we had to pay (this tax applies to all UK stocks). This left us holding 29 stocks in the portfolio. Only 1 of our 29 holdings had gains this week. 🟒 $IRDM (Iridium Communications Inc) gained 6.12% after unveiling Iridium Certus GMDSS at SMM Hamburg (an international maritime tradeshow). This new product combines GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress & Safety System), LRIT (Long-Range Identification And Tracking) and SSAS (Ship Security Alert System) along with midband voice and data into a single terminal – terminals will be supplied by $HO.PA (Thales Group) . Maritime is one of the areas where Iridium out-competes the likes of Starlink and OneWeb and is partly why I have kept them in the portfolio. Starlink and OneWeb are limited to international waters and countries which have licensed their spectrum but Iridium is available everywhere in the world. investor.iridium.com/2024-09-03-Iridium-Unveils-Iridium-Certus-GMDSS-Defining-a-New-Standard-in-Maritime-Safety-and-Communications πŸ”΄ BKSY (BlackSky) fell (30.05%) both to the market falling and additionally in response to news of a 1-8 reverse stock split. I’m not concerned as I still believe the company has a path to GAAP profitability over the next 2 years - www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/1753539/000175353924000112/bksy-20240904.htm πŸ”΄ PL (Planet Labs) dropped 33.83% after releasing their Q2 2025 results which showed that the backlog has reduced (-11.9%) over the last 6 months to $213.5 million. Q2 compared to the same quarter last year ($ in millions except for EPS): - Revenue: $ 61.1 +13.6% - Gross Profit: $32.3 +22.9% - Net Loss: $(38.7) (-1.8%) - Net Loss Adjusted*: $(27.3) +27.1% - EPS: $(0.13) +7.1% *There was a previously announced one-off restructuring expense related to redundancies that came in at $10.5 million which was less that the projected $11 million. And in other portfolio related news… Via Satellite interviewed $DE (Deere & Co) senior product manager of Connectivity, Michael Kool, about how they are integrating Starlink into farm machinery in the US and Brazil - www.satellitetoday.com/connectivity/2024/08/30/john-deere-details-early-access-program-for-starlink-solution/ Gilat announced securing another $12 million in orders for their SkyEdge VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) Platforms from a global SATCOM (Satellite Communications) operator - www.gilat.com/pressreleases/gilat-secures-over-12-million-orders-for-skyedge-platforms-from-leading-satellite-operator/ Eutelsat OneWeb has teamed up with Softbank to provide broandband LEO (Low Earth Orbit) SATCOM to businesses and government agencies in Japan - www.eutelsat.com/en/news/press.html#/pressreleases/eutelsat-and-softbank-corp-collaborate-to-offer-ubiquitous-low-latency-secure-connectivity-for-businesses-and-government-agencies-throughout-japan-3339985 You can see more announcements and discussion on my X-Twitter feed at twitter.com/Space_Horton/with_replies
