Yesterday marked the dramatic end of a rollercoaster week in the stock market. The news was flooded with reports of an IT outage affecting $MSFT (Microsoft) endpoints, later declared by the companyโ€™s CEO to have been caused by $CRWD (Crowdstrike Holdings) . Both Microsoft and CrowdStrike stocks fell, but the major drop was for CrowdStrike stock, which fell by 11% yesterday. As Microsoft and CrowdStrike make up 15% of our portfolio, we were also impacted by yesterdayโ€™s volatility. Iโ€™m going to briefly explain yesterdayโ€™s black swan event and how we responded to it. An international IT outage was caused by a faulty software update released by CrowdStrike. George Kurtz, the CEO of CrowdStrike, stated in his official statement on yesterdayโ€™s outage, โ€œThe outage was caused by a defect found in a Falcon content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This was not a cyberattack.โ€ The problem has been resolved and all systems are back to normal operation. Here are some points I want to highlight, based on which I downsized our exposure to CrowdStrike: George Kurtz was quick to declare that the outage was not a cyberattack and that all clients were well protected (via his account on X and LinkedIn). What Kurtz tried to do here is to protect the moat of CrowdStrike. Good, right? Not entirely. While the moat of CrowdStrike was intact. It is a great relief for insurance companies as they donโ€™t have to finance the losses, guess who will. Yes, youโ€™re right, CrowdStrike will have to compensate all the damaged customers and this will not be cheap. On the technical side of the problem (Here for programmers: https://x.com/Perpetualmaniac/status/1814376668095754753 ), it was simply a coding error. A simple error, yes, but it revealed problems. They deployed an update to the production environment without testing it. Every software developer knows how fatal and irresponsible it is to do such a thing. At least the test manager in CrowdStrike must be fired for this. While corporations do not change their cybersecurity systems like they change their coffee provider (forget about Muskโ€™s nonsense that they deleted CrowdStrike from all their systems), it will definitely make new clients think before choosing CrowdStrike as their Cyber Security provider. Maybe the stock will recover from here, or it will dip further when we know how expensive CrowdStrike will have to pay for this. Until then, to mitigate volatility, I moved around 2% of our invested fund in CrowdStrike to our investment in the Healthcare and consumer cyclical sector. My take on the matter: CrowdStrike will recover from this. The growth potential and the size of the market will bring the stock to higher levels again. If someone can handle high volatility, CrowdStrike is a good buy now. Yesterday, we also bid farewell to $SMAR (Smartsheet Inc) closing a trade on a small profit and replacing this tech growth stock with $CELH (Celsius Holdings Inc.) . $CELH is one of the most traded stocks in my portfolio and I was waiting for the stock price to hit $50 to enter with a new trade. Additionally, I placed a small position on $BKNG (Booking Holdings Inc) This business was recommended to me by my friend @AliDahak . Ali has an academic background in economics and more than a decade of experience as Finicial controler in the hospitality industry. After looking at the fundamentals of the business, I found it appealing to be a new addition to our portfolio, as the tourism industry will boom when the rate cut takes place.
