With the sudden and significant increase in global energy prices, the narrative now across the financial news outlets is the potential return of damaging inflation to the UK economy 📈 This would, by extension, reduce the likelihood of any further interest rate cuts in the near future, which have been supporting asset prices over the last year or so. We could even see a return to interest rate increases if things do escalate and persist on the inflation front. However, for this to occur we really would need to see a sustained duration of energy price volatility and it's impossible to know at this stage how realistic a threat this could be. Our most exposed sectors to the threat of increased interest rates are our Financials, REITs and Homebuilders 🏦 In the meantime, we are seeing some positive balancing from our significant energy sector exposure 🛢 Whilst the situation continues to unfold, I'll be monitoring our portfolio for discounted opportunities in the most impacted sectors. 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 💸 I will be making my monthly deposit earlier than usual this month to ensure that we have maximum capital available to exploit any market opportunities.
