Shares of $TGNA (TEGNA Inc) are currently 28% higher today after multiple news outlets reported $NXST (Nexstar Media Group Inc) is looking to acquire the company.
Spokespeople for both companies have declined to comment so far. Therefore it is just a rumour at the moment.
I invested in Tegna when it was a takeover target for Standard General. Ultimately that takeover failed as it was blocked by The FCC (Federal Communications Commission). At the time, President Biden was in office.
If these rumours do have merit, then the likelihood of the FCC blocking the deal this time around may be reduced as Trump appointee Brendan Carr has begun to repeal rules governing broadcasting as part of a wider deregulation push.
