To prevent this post from being too long, it will be completed in two parts. For now I want to discuss my reasoning behind the purchase and my long term thoughts. Over the weekend I will do a second post, diving a lot more into the financials behind the decision. My financial posts are often very informative but also quite boring, so moving forward I will look at separating the two, so those of you who do not enjoy the numbers, will not have to endure them. ๐™‹๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ ๐Ÿญ Who are Baidu? First of all for those of you who do not know, They're China's largest search engine, invest heavily the world of AI, Autonomous cars and AI chip manufacturing. All of these areas are high demand industries. Baidu has seen a recent decline in their search engine revenue, but this has been offset by the increase in the other sectors of their business. I have been watching Baidu for a while now and I am not going to lie, after their recent price increase I almost did not purchase the stock. Not because I believe it is overvalue, but because of my bruised ego. Psychologically, after missing a 40% rise in a stock that I have been watching closely was hard to swallow. But I remind myself, over the long term, this is very insignificant. If we purchase a company for a period of years, then there is much more returns to be made. They all have great long term potential. Search engines are great. AI is bombing, autonomous cars are in their infancy, AI chips are in massive demand. Although their chips are currently inferior to NVIDIA, with current and likely long term trade issues between the US and China, it eliminates a lot of competition domestically for Baidu. On top of this, even if the trade issues disappear, as time goes on, AI chips are only going to be needed more and more. NVIDIA will only be able to create so many, so like many industries, their is room for more than one supplier. ๐™๐™๐™š๐™ž๐™ง ๐™›๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ž๐™–๐™ก๐™จ ๐™–๐™ง๐™š ๐™จ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ž๐™™ (I will go into this more over the weekend), but the numbers look good. The only main downside for me, ๐™ฃ๐™ค ๐™™๐™ž๐™ซ๐™ž๐™™๐™š๐™ฃ๐™™.Those of you who have read my other posts know how much I love a dividend. So for now, this will be purely a growth stock. I often get asked questions like why do I have so many Chinese stocks, or am I not scared of the Chinese government and stocks? Honestly it does not bother me at all. Like all countries, China want to make money too. In the last 20 years, they have opened up massively to free trade, with some great growth and long term goals from both companies and their government. Personally, I look for stocks based on the companies themselves, their financials, The industries, their products, what I think of their future. So long as the country is stable, I am happy. China is a growing economy with plenty of opportunity to make money. It just so happens that many of their companies trade at low financial multiples, making them quite attractive. For now I have only invested the recently deposited funds, but I over the coming weeks I will be balancing the portfolio, selling some stocks (maybe not entirely, just trimming positions), and strengthening others. If you have any questions about Baidu or any stock questions in general, please ask away! Have a great day! Rhys Adams
