I’ve been thinking a lot about $TSLA (Tesla Motors, Inc.) especially with their earnings coming up next week. Markets $SPX500 $NSDQ100 have been pretty irrational lately, with plenty of red flags waving around. We’ve got trade war worries, a weakening labor market, and inflation creeping back up. Recently, Tesla’s been on a big run from lows of $200 to highs of $400. You might think, "Oh wow, Tesla must be doing awesome," but when you really look closer, you see the story’s a bit more complicated. Their revenue growth has been pretty flat over the past year or two, and the expiration of those EV credits at the end of September is a big deal. Tesla made billions from those credits, and now, with them gone, that’s a serious hit to their bottom line. It's a huge shift in their revenue model.Tesla has always been about projections and dreams, many people believe in Elon. I love what Tesla stands for, but that doesn’t mean I’m blindly following the hype . When a company’s growth slows down, like Tesla’s has, it makes me take a step back and really question the stock’s valuation. Sure, Tesla has a high PE ratio, but with growth slowing and no real growth story to back it up, that PE starts to look less justified. It’s also important to understand where Tesla’s making its money. They’re losing revenue from those regulatory credits, and that’s going to affect their earnings reports. I’m not just looking at the top line numbers I want to know what’s driving them. Without that extra income from regulatory credits, it’s going to be a tough for Tesla in the short term. The key here is to recognise the risks. I like to make my decisions based on understanding why no do something, not just why I should. And with Tesla, there are some big red flags. Their regulatory credits are a thing of the past, and that’s a significant loss for them. There’s a chance they could report a loss in upcoming quarters if they can’t make up for that revenue loss. It’s going to be really interesting to see how Tesla handles all this. They might surprise us, or they might retrace back to previous lows which I’m expecting. Either way, I’ll be watching closely.
