In the midst of a trade war with China that is rattling financial markets, the United States has softened its stance by exempting smartphones, computers, and other electronic products from the recent massive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. According to a Customs Service notice published late Friday, these exemptions specifically apply to electronic products imported into the United States from China, which has been targeted since Wednesday by monumental import duties of 145%. Semiconductors are exempt from the 10% tariff applied to most other US trading partners, but President Trump has not ruled out the possibility that they could still be subject to specific tariffs. The American president said on Saturday that he would provide a “very precise” answer on Monday regarding the potential tariffs on semiconductors. These exemptions offer some breathing room to American consumers, who were at risk of seeing the prices of these popular products skyrocket. They will also benefit tech giants like $AAPL (Apple) which manufactures its iPhones and other flagship products in China, as well as $DELL (Dell Technologies Inc C) $SPX500 (SPX500 Index (Non Expiry)) $NVDA (NVIDIA Corporation) $NSDQ100 (NASDAQ100 Index (Non Expiry))
