After several months of poor market returns, with our benchmark, the S&P 500 declining each of the past three month, November brought some much-needed relief. The S&P 500 erased all of the previous three monthsโ€™ losses, delivering a gain of almost 9%. European markets also performed well with Germanyโ€™s DAX index up over 9% and Frances CAC 40 index up over 6%. The only disappointing market was the UKโ€™s FTSE 100 which managed a gain of just 1.8%. Our portfolio didnโ€™t disappoint, beating our benchmark with an almost 10% gain during November. Our largest collective contributors were the stocks in the semiconductor sector, with Nvidia up almost 15% and Synopsys up over 25%. Cadence was also up almost 14% during the month. Another standout performer was $FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation), up over 28% in November. Our technology stocks were mixed. Microsoft (up 12%) and Motorola (up almost 16%) performed exceptionally, both outperforming the Nasdaq 100. However, our other technology stock, Fortinet, underperformed and ended the month down 8%. It was our largest detractor by value. I didnโ€™t make any changes to the portfolio in November but I do continue to review my stock allocations.
