LONG TERM INVESTING: WHY TIME IS WORTH MORE THAN CAPITAL If you've been copying me for a while, you already know this, but it's worth repeating with real numbers: in the Core part of my portfolio, the real engine isn't how much I invest, it's HOW LONG I've been invested. Let me explain with YIELD ON COST (YoC): the % dividend you receive today, calculated on the price you actually paid, not on the current price. When a company grows its dividend consistently, this number keeps climbing year after year and whoever got in earlier ends up earning more and more on the exact same capital. Three real examples from my TARGET-2035 portfolio: 🛢️ PAGP - Plains GP Holdings Bought in 2021 at $8.55. Today it's worth $26.66 (+312%) and will distribute $1.70/year: nearly 20% of the initial investment, every single year. Only copied me for a year? Your gain would be "just" 33%, YoC "just" 8.5%. 🚬 BTI - British American Tobacco Bought in April 2023 at $36.53. Today it's worth $63 (+58%), YoC at 9.22%. Copying for 12 months only gets you +19% and a 6.4% YoC. 🚢 DAC - Danaos Corporation Bought in July 2023 at $70.80. Today it's worth $138 (+95%), YoC at 5.08%. From a year ago? +48% gain but only 3.83% YoC. Same stock, same Pro Investor, completely different results. The difference isn't luck: it's WHEN you got in and WHETHER you stayed in. Where capital can't reach, time can — but only if you have the patience to let it. That's why when I say "copy me for the long term," it's not a trick to keep you locked in: part of the strategy simply only works this way. Not every investment will play out like these three; they remain examples, not promises, but the long-term principle still holds.
