Waiting for the dip has cost more money than the dips themselves. It sounds responsible. The market is at ATH, so you wait for a better entry. Then the pullback comes in at 8% instead of the 20% you had in mind, you decide to hold out a bit longer. A few months later you are buying the same thing 15% above where you started. The one that stuck with me most was NVIDIA. I sold at around $70 in 2024 near an all-time high, planning to get back in once it cooled off. I thought I have a rock solid plan. It never went back to $70. The stock closed last Friday at $224. Look at what just happened this summer. Tech had a rough July, the $NSDQ100 bottomed on July 29, and then ran almost 9% in about a week. $SPX500 closed Friday at 7,757, its 26th record high this year. Everyone who spent June and July saying they were waiting for a correction got exactly the correction they asked for. Most of them are still in cash today. It was real. It just never lasted long enough to feel comfortable, because corrections do not arrive with a calm week and a green light. They arrive with a headline that makes you think this time is different, and by the time the headline fades the price has already recovered. So I stopped trying to time the entry. My thesis is measured in years, not in weeks. The things I own are tied to bottlenecks that take a long time to build out. Between the two mistakes available to me, I would rather sit through volatility inside a position than watch the next move happen from the sidelines. I only trimmed $MU (Micron Technology, Inc.) at ATH, still holding comfortable amount. Added a few stocks on weakness including $GEV (GE Vernova LLC) and $MSFT (Microsoft) while it was way undervalued. Being early and uncomfortable beats being right and out, at least for me.
