How Do the Iran-Israel & Russia-Ukraine Conflicts Affect the Market? Geopolitical tensions like the Iran-Israel and Russia-Ukraine conflicts tend to shake global markets, especially impacting energy, defense, and transportation sectors. In times like these, investors often shift focus toward: Military and defense stocks (e.g., $LMT (Lockheed Martin Corporation), $LMT, $NOC (Northrop Grumman Corp), $NOC, $BA.L (BAE Systems plc )) Oil and gas (e.g., $XOM (Exxon-Mobil), $CVX.US (Chevron), $BP.L (BP)) due to rising uncertainty in supply Global shipping and logistics (e.g., Maersk, ZIM, FedEx) as supply chain disruption leads to pricing shifts These sectors typically see a rise in value during geopolitical instability, but they also carry higher volatility. What Should You Focus on? In this environment, it’s wise to build a balanced portfolio with a mix of: Individual stocks (e.g., $MSFT (Microsoft), $AMZN (Amazon.com Inc), $META (Meta Platforms Inc), $BLK (BlackRock Inc)) ETFs (e.g., $SPY (State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF) & $VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 ETF), defense-focused ETFs like $ITA (iShares US Aerospace & Defense ETF) or energy ETFs like $XLE (State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF) Cryptocurrencies ($BTC, $ETH etc.) as hedges or growth assets This creates a solid foundation that can grow slowly but steadily, as Warren Buffett famously said: “The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient.” My Focus So Far I'm currently focusing on two things: Potential growth stocks – One of them is $KMCP.OL (Kmc Properties ASA) . Despite its price volatility, it has shown some short-term stability around 0.16 NOK. While the risk of further devaluation exists, it could also present a good entry point before potential momentum returns. Balancing and strengthening the portfolio – My next step is to diversify further with solid performers like Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and BlackRock, and then introduce selected ETFs for long-term balance and risk control.
