European Cloud and Software: The Next Strategic Megatrend Over the past year, European defense companies have significantly benefited from rising military budgets. The next wave of strategic investment should be in European enterprise software and cloud infrastructure. Recent geopolitical developments, including heightened U.S. controls on data and technology, have created exceptional growth opportunities for Europe’s technology sector. The most striking case is Microsoft's decision to block the International Criminal Court's (ICC) chief prosecutor from accessing official email — a clear signal that tech policy is no longer neutral but deeply geopolitical. While Europe lags behind the U.S. and China in technological capabilities, a new momentum is forming. Just as Europe is rearming militarily, it is now entering a phase of technological rearmament. Public institutions and large European enterprises are actively reassessing their reliance on American cloud and software platforms. American tech giants — Microsoft, Amazon, Google — still dominate cloud markets. However, European data regulations (GDPR, Data Act, Schrems II) and political will are creating a window for European alternatives. Based on our thematic conviction and strategic positioning, we are initiating positions in two of these companies within our @II-Disruptive portfolio: IONOS Group SE — for its pure cloud infrastructure exposure and scalable platform model disrupting incumbent providers. SAP SE — for its leading role in European enterprise software and cloud transformation, backed by robust fundamentals and global footprint. These holdings align with our investment thesis focused on structural digital megatrends and represent high-potential European alternatives in a sector traditionally dominated by U.S. technology giants. $IOS.DE (IONOS Group SE) $SAP.DE (SAP SE)
