SK Hynix Makes Its U.S. IPO Debut Today Today, SK Hynix begins trading on Nasdaq under the ticker SKHY. The IPO was priced at US$149 per ADR, and demand was extremely strong, with the offering reportedly 7 times oversubscribed. Investors around the world are watching closely because this is one of the biggest technology listings in recent years. Whenever a company becomes the center of attention, many investors feel they must buy it immediately. I prefer to ask a different question: "Am I buying a great business at a sensible price?" SK Hynix is one of the world's leading memory chip manufacturers. More importantly, it is the global leader in High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), the advanced memory used in AI chips from companies like $NVDA (NVIDIA Corporation) As AI continues to expand, the demand for faster and more efficient memory should continue to grow. This gives SK Hynix a strong competitive position. Building advanced memory technology takes years of research, massive capital investment, and engineering expertise. These aren't advantages that competitors can easily copy. But every investment has risks. The memory industry is cyclical. Strong demand can produce outstanding profits, but when supply catches up, prices and earnings can fall quickly. Competition from Samsung and $MU (Micron Technology, Inc.) is also increasing as they invest heavily in HBM. That's why I don't buy a stock simply because it's making headlines or because the IPO is popular. A wonderful business can still be a poor investment if you pay too much for it. If AI keeps growing over the next decade, SK Hynix has the potential to remain one of the companies powering that growth. But patience still matters. Sometimes the best investment decision is not buying on the first day. it is waiting until the price offers a reasonable margin of safety. Remember: Great businesses create wealth over time. Great prices help protect your capital. Successful investing requires both.
