2025 YTD Portfolio Performance: My portfolio: 14.80% S&P500: 14.66% Weekly Performance Summary US stock markets fell sharply, with all three major indices snapping a three-week winning streak. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the decline, plunging approximately 3% for its worst weekly performance since April. The S&P 500 lost around 1.6%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 1.2%. The sell-off was driven primarily by a steep downturn in high-flying technology stocks, particularly those related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Investors grew increasingly concerned about stretched valuations and "overheating" in the sector, leading to significant profit-taking in so-called "Magnificent Seven" stocks. Market anxiety was compounded by a combination of weak economic data and political uncertainty. An ongoing federal government shutdown, now in its 38th day, weighed heavily on sentiment by delaying key reports like the official October jobs data. In the absence of official figures, private data painted a mixed and concerning picture. While one report showed stabilizing private payrolls, another from Challenger, Gray & Christmas revealed the largest number of announced layoffs for October in over 20 years. Furthermore, consumer confidence plummeted. The University of Michigan's preliminary November sentiment index fell to its lowest level since June 2022, with many respondents citing the government shutdown as a primary concern. This weak economic outlook and the tech pullback overshadowed what has been a largely positive third-quarter earnings season. That is all I could summarise about what happened in the stock market last week. Have a great weekend! $VOOV (Vanguard S&P 500 Value ETF)
