AI is a core part of my workflow โ in a way that leaves me firmly in control.
Across development and personal projects, it acts as an accelerator, not a decision-maker.
๐ป In development, itโs somewhere between a rubber duck and a team of junior engineers.
A typical workflow starts simple:
โI want to update this tool to include X.โ
From there, it becomes a loop:
โก๏ธ Generate โก๏ธ Modify โก๏ธ Review โก๏ธ Refine
AI handles the grunt work โ boilerplate, structure, first drafts.
But Iโm still in control:
Deciding whatโs correct
Changing what isnโt
Discarding what doesnโt fit
๐ I also use it as a reviewer.
After writing something, Iโll ask:
What could I do better?
Whatโs wrong with this?
What am I missing?
Itโs great for expanding test coverage too โ surfacing edge cases, building out unit and end-to-end scenarios.
Used properly, AI compounds your skillset.
Used poorly, it just amplifies noise, adds clutter and, yes, AI slop to the world.
And this post followed a similar approach.
I started with an idea, then used AI to shape the structure, refine the wording, and iterate on the flow โ a 20โ40 prompt process, ending in a manual tweaking process for the bits that needed it.
The thoughts are mine.
They just made it into words faster.
If there's a loss, it's with the personality and fingerprint of my own writing style โ that's an edge I'm still working on. Itโs also a rapidly moving space, the agents and engines I'm using are forever changing, usage depending on complexity and the types of work that I'm doing.
I've deliberately left this post a bit more AI-fingerprinted โ it seemed the right thing to do โ warts (em-dashes) and all - and now I'm going to get one final grammar and typo check before posting - after which I wont be able to avoid the tempation to edit just before posting.
