2025 YTD Portfolio Performance: My portfolio: +2.29% S&P500: -1.68% 7/3/25 Market Weekly Update: U.S. stocks suffered their worst week since early September, with major indexes posting significant declines. The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, S&P MidCap 400, and Russell 2000 all dropped over 3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 2.37%, wiping out most of its gains for the year. Uncertainty over trade policy weighed heavily on investor sentiment. Tuesday marked the deadline for President Trump’s planned tariffs—25% on Canadian and Mexican imports and an additional 10% on Chinese goods. However, later in the week, the administration introduced exemptions and delays, including a one-month reprieve for goods covered under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The shifting policy landscape contributed to market volatility. On Friday, the Labor Department released the nonfarm payroll report, showing that the U.S. economy added 151,000 jobs in February. While slightly below expectations, this figure surpassed January’s 125,000. Sectors such as health care, financial activities, and transportation saw the highest job growth, while federal employment declined. The unemployment rate edged up to 4.1% from 4.0%. Following the report, U.S. Treasury yields initially fell but rebounded later in the day. Broadcom (AVGO) surged 10.3% in pre-market trading after reporting better-than-expected earnings and strong revenue. The company attributed its success to robust demand for AI semiconductor solutions and infrastructure software, with continued strength expected in Q2 due to hyperscaler investments. Nvidia (NVDA) gained nearly 1% in early trading after a sharp decline the previous day, as Broadcom’s strong results provided some support for the semiconductor sector. Technical indicators showed that the S&P 500’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) dropped below 34, nearing oversold territory. However, analysts cautioned that ongoing trade tensions and weak economic data made it premature to call a market bottom. That is all I could summarise about what happened in the stock market last week. Have a great weekend! $VOOV (Vanguard S&P 500 Value ETF)
