WEEKLY UPDATE ๐Ÿ”†2024 WEEK 25, June 24 - 30 Dear Investors, Followers and Copiers, As Q1 earnings season is closing, JPMorgan says that operating EPS of S&P500 companies is up 4.5% year on year and 1.9% quarter on quarter. Revenues, supported by a resilient economy and solid inflation, were the largest contributor to earnings growth. Goldman chief economist said that GDP has slowed from 4.1% in 2023 second half to an estimated 1.7% in 2024 first half and expects moderate pick up in 2024 second half. The US Retail Sales, reported last week, were weak. They rose 0.1% over the month and 2.3% over the year, adding to signs of a slowing economy. Piper Sandlerโ€™s Nancy Lazar said on CNBC that a soft landing is off the table, consumers are pulling back on spending as unemployment rises. She says that Retail Sales have been flat all year. On Wednesday the UKโ€™s Office for National Statistics said that Mayโ€™s inflation fell to 2%, the Bank of Englandโ€™s (BoE) target. In April it was 2.3%.
