📊 Beliefs for Investment — and for Life! 🤔 Over time I’ve realised that many of the principles that guide my investing also apply to life more broadly. These are some of the core beliefs I try to follow when managing risk and capital 🤓 1️⃣ Make sure to be around for tomorrow.🎯 Survival is the first rule of investing. Avoiding catastrophic losses matters more than chasing extraordinary gains. 2️⃣ You only need to avoid the worst days and participate in the best ones to win.🏅 Everything in between often behaves like a random walk. Risk management is about limiting the damage from the darkest periods while staying invested for the strongest recoveries. 3️⃣ Zoom out. 🔍➡️🌍 The closer you zoom into markets, the more chaotic everything appears. Step back and the long-term trend becomes much smoother and clearer. 4️⃣ Remember you are part of a larger system that fluctuates. 🌐🌦☀️⚡️ Markets move in cycles and systemic downturns are often unavoidable. The goal isn’t to escape every downturn—it’s to minimise permanent damage. 5️⃣ Always be structurally prepared for the unexpected. ⚠️🚑 You should expect downturns to be unexpected and so must be set up in a way that is structurally prepared at all times, no matter how good things seem. 6️⃣ Never let volatility rush your decisions. ♟️🕙 Impulsive decision-making is one of the biggest sins in risk management. Discipline and patience are far more valuable than speed. 7️⃣ Diversification is free stability 📊 Don’t rely on a small number of investments or factors for performance. A well-diversified portfolio improves stability and resilience. 8️⃣ Define your strategy, refine your process, and stay patient. ⏳ Consistency matters. The edge comes from following grounded thinking and defined practice over time. These principles guide how I manage the portfolio. They help me stay focused on long-term compounding rather than short-term noise. Curious to hear from others here: What rules do you follow in investing? $SPX500 $NSDQ100
