They released a brief Q3 update in which they said they are back on track to meet analyst guidance for FY24. They also announced a ยฃ100m share buyback over the next 12 months to take advantage of what the board thinks is โ€œthe current undervaluation of the Groupโ€ - www.qinetiq.com/en/news/qinetiq-group-plc-fy24-third-quarter-trading-update ๐ŸŸข $SPT.L (Spirent Communications PLC) gained 3.86%. They released their 2023 trading update and said results are in line with the Boardโ€™s updated guidance after Q3 last year when they downgraded guidance after major expected orders didnโ€™t materialize - otp.investis.com/generic/regulatory-story.aspx?cid=486&newsid=1749084 ๐Ÿ”ด ETL.PA (Eutelsat Group) fell (8.23%). The price dropped throughout the week after Deere & Co announced they had selected rival Starlink as their SATCOM provider to enable connected farm equipment, including robotic vehicles, with initial service beginning in the second half of 2024 in Brazil and the USA - www.deere.com/en/news/all-news/john-deere-partnership-with-spacex/ Eutelsat did have some good news announcing they have signed a new multi-orbit deal with South African connectivity provider Paratus. Paratus was already using Eutelsatโ€™s GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) satellites, and now they will also use the OneWeb LEO (Low Earth Orbit) constellation as well โ€“ this will provide a huge improvement in latency for end users - oneweb.net/resources/eutelsat-oneweb-supports-paratus-south-africa-launch-its-south-africa-connectivity ๐Ÿ”ด HO.PA (Thales) was down (6.24%). The price was drifting down throughout the week and then had a sharp drop and partial rebound before continuing down after JP Morgan reduced their 12 month price target from โ‚ฌ175 to โ‚ฌ171. And in other portfolio newsโ€ฆ Google, along with AT&T and Vodafone, has made a strategic investment in $ASTS (AST SpaceMobile Inc) which is building a satellite constellation to provide 5G service to regular unmodified mobile phones. Google has further agreed to work with AST on developing products for Android devices. AST SpaceMobileโ€™s huge satellites are capable of providing video calls and speeds of up to 120 Mbps far exceeding the basic messaging currently available via $GSAT (Globalstar) on the iPhone 14 and later models. Google/Alphabet now has investments in 2 companies working on providing โ€˜cell towers in spaceโ€™ as they are also a major shareholder in SpaceX which owns Starlink. AST SpaceMobile still needs to raise about $350 million to complete their initial 25 satellite constellation. www.businesswire.com/news/home/20240118463570/en/AST-SpaceMobile-Secures-Strategic-Investment-From-ATT-Google-and-Vodafone $LMT (Lockheed Martin Corporation) has won an $890 million contract from the SDA (Space Development Agency) to build 18 satellites for the Tranche 2 Tracking Layer of the PWSA (Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture). These sattelites will be used for detecting and tracking ballistic and hypersonic missiles. news.lockheedmartin.com/2024-01-11-Lockheed-Martin-Awarded-Contract-for-18-SDA-Tranche-2-Tracking-Layer-Satellites Michael Sheetz has written a good summary of the SDAโ€™s PWSA satellite constellation. This portfolio is invested in Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Rocket Lab which have won $5.9 billion of the $9.9 billion in contract awards so far. www.cnbc.com/2024/01/18/investing-in-space-pentagons-sda-satellite-awards-near-10-billion.html Report continues in the comments...
