A couple of thoughts about yesterday's mess with @CPHequities. For those who didn't experience it, this PI used some automatic bot to post a welcome message on his timeline for his new followers. I'm assuming something went wrong yesterday, as his account started flooding with literally thousands of identical posts (except that each one tagged a different follower), and many of us got literally thousands of notifications from him within a few hours. Some people even uninstalled the app to make it stop. Now, I'm sure the guy is in good faith and didn't mean to do it. I understand that both him and eToro benefit from creating online trafic from his profile and that's fine. But I still have some thoughts. 1. Posting identical welcome messages tagging his followers wasn't new from this PI. I'm assuming (still, in good faith) he wasn't aware that every follower gets notified for every single post he makes, even if they're not tagged. I had already experienced floods of notification from him, just not on this scale. The fact that something went wrong this time doesn't take away from the fact that it's a stupid thing to do in any case. 2. If you're a PI, please just don't do these public individual welcome messages. a) They're cringe. They sound like my grandpa who posts "Thank for your friendship" on Facebook. b) They're annoying and useless. If someone starts following you, it means they've already seen your profile so they don't need a "hey, look at my stats" welcome from you. c) People don't necessarily want to be publicly called out to everyone just because their following you. I certainly don't. It's silly. 3. If your posts are so repetitive that you even start thinking "uhm, I could use a bot", that's a direct indication that your posts are useless garbage. 4. Assuming that I'm not very different from an "average" eToro investor, I can guarantee that if you're a PI and you're posting useless spam, that is driving copiers away from you. When I selected my investors, I specifically excluded the spammers, even when their stats looked good. 5. Spammers make the platform look unprofessional and untrustworthy, and I think @popularinvestors should actively encourage PIs to maintain a minimum quality standard for their presence on the platform. 5. @eToro_Moderation I find it insane that the platform doesn't have even a basic spam filter which detects obvious spam like hundreds of posts per minute from the same profile. This is quite a worrying eposide, if I'm honest. That's it. Sorry, end of my rant. $SPX500 $NSDQ100 $BTC
