Weekend Recap: Ceasefire Cracks and a Hot Jobs Report Shift the Mood Dear copiers, investors and followers, I am writing this post as a mini recap of the latest weekend news relevant, directly or indirectly, to our portfolio. Geopolitics back in focus The Israel, Lebanon and Iran ceasefire came under strain. Iran fired missiles at Israel over the weekend, the first such hit since the truce, and Israel retaliated with strikes on Iranian territory. The risk premium is back on the table. The jobs shock Friday's US payrolls landed far above expectations, at 172,000 against a consensus near 85,000, with March and April revised up by a combined 93,000 and unemployment steady at 4.3%. This was the strongest three-month run in over two years. The reading pushes Fed cuts off the table and revives talk of a possible hike, lifting the dollar $USDOLLAR. Markets and commodities Asia opened sharply lower. South Korea's Kospi fell as much as 8%, dragged by chipmakers, with Japan also down. $OIL climbed toward 96 dollars on supply fears, while OPEC+ agreed to raise output from July. US futures were mixed, with the $NSDQ100 trying to stabilise after last week's tech selloff.
