Just diversified into real estate with VNQ (Vanguard Real Estate ETF) - using 8.30% of my equity for this position!
Why REITs Now?
β Portfolio was too concentrated in tech/growth (68% before this)
β Real estate provides inflation hedge and income generation
β Interest rate environment stabilizing - good for REITs
β Diversification away from my heavy tech positions (SPXL, SMH, XLK)
The Strategy: Moving from pure growth to balanced approach. Real estate adds:
- Steady dividends for income generation
- Inflation protection through property values
- Low correlation with tech stocks
- Defensive characteristics during market volatility
Portfolio Balance Update:
- Growth: 50% (SPXL, SMH, MA, SHOP)
- Defensive: 30% (DFEN, FAS, IB01.L, VNQ, dividend stocks)
- Speculative: 20% (Individual picks, crypto)
- Risk Management: Reduced single-stock concentration (sold partial MA and XLK positions) to fund this diversification play.
