🌱 Is ESG investing worth it… or just a feel-good mirage? 💸 Back in 2021, I started seriously looking into ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) investing. 🌍 I’d read studies claiming ESG portfolios outperform, protect against downside risk, and align with ethical values. It felt like the future. But then I dug deeper… and the waters got murky. Yes, I believe in sustainability. I recycle, I eat local, and I teach my kid to respect nature. But when it comes to investing — I want clear numbers, not greenwashing and vague promises. Let’s be honest: • Many “ESG” funds still hold oil majors, alcohol, and big tech. 🤔 • ESG scores vary wildly depending on who’s measuring. 📉 • And despite the feel-good aura, some ESG funds underperform traditional indexes. 🐢 I remember adding an ESG ETF to my portfolio in 2022. It trailed the S&P 500 while charging a higher fee. Worse, half the holdings were already in my core portfolio. Was I just doubling exposure with a nicer label? So I sold it. ✅ Instead, I decided to take a “do-it-yourself ESG” approach — owning quality companies that: ✔️ Treat employees well ✔️ Have low debt ✔️ Don’t constantly pollute or litigate ✔️ Show genuine long-term stewardship And many of them weren’t even in ESG funds. Now, I’m curious… ⸻ 🗳️ What do you think about ESG investing? 🌱 Is it actually worth it? A) Absolutely – I want my money to match my values B) Only if performance is equal or better C) Not important – I just want profits D) I don’t understand ESG enough ⸻ 🧠 Drop your thoughts below.
