Once again, October didn’t bring the dreaded correction that the media and talking heads were warning you about. We stayed invested — calmly, systematically — and as a result, we’ve continued to benefit from the prevailing market strength.
Our equity exposure remains at maximum, and gold exposure is also at max, acting as our preferred proxy for fixed income in the current environment.
The only slight adjustment we’re making this month is a modest reduction in crypto exposure. Some of our trend-following systems have been flashing back and forth — it could very well be a false signal — but as always, we follow our systems. In the end, risk management trumps opinion.
As research consistently shows (for example, in studies by AQR and Campbell & Thompson, 2008), systematic risk management is one of the key drivers of long-term portfolio success — it helps investors avoid emotional decision-making and reduces the impact of large drawdowns over time.
