They can all be 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 (𝐈𝐑𝐈). By nature, people dislike uncertainty. One way or another we try to find patterns and signs of what the future might hold, and if uncertainty is linked to money, this will even be more prominent. Predicting the next recession is almost like a sport. If you google when the next recession will come, you will find a whole plethora (yes, I actually use that word, it isn’t ChatGPT 🙂) of results, all pointing to different events. I track a good number of macroeconomic conditions for a better overview of potential warning signs, but lately I’ve been fascinated by these 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, as they not only are a great reminder that economics is as much about 𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 as it is about numbers, but they actually hold some predictive power as well.
