The tech-heavy Nasdaq, benchmark S&P 500, and blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average ended Tuesday down a respective 0.8%, 0.4%, and 0.2%. The Nasdaq, Dow, and S&P 500 jumped yesterday, with the Dow adding more than 630 points, after Trump wrote on Truth Social that the U.S. and Iran had engaged in "productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hosilities in the Middle East" over the weekend. The three indexes all finished about 2% lower last week, their fourth straight week in the red. Oil climbed once again Tuesday as the Iran conflict showed no signs of ending imminently. West Texas Intermediate crude futures, the U.S. oil benchmark, were up 4% at 4 p.m. ET to about $92 a barrel after plunging yesterday. Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, were around $104.50. Gold futures ticked lower to, $4,400 an ounce, while silver edged higher, to $69.75. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note, which affects interest rates on all sorts of consumer loans, surged to 4.39% from 4.35% at Monday's close. The U.S. Dollar Index, which tracks the value of the greenback against a basket of currencies, was 0.5% higher at 99.41. Bitcoin was trading around $69,300, down from the day's high of near $71,400. Shares of the Magnificent Seven tech giants ended mostly lower after all rose yesterday, snapping a three-session losing streak for the group. Tesla (TSLA), which led gains at 3.5% Monday, finished 0.6% higher to again pace the septet after it posted its first European monthly sales increase in more than a year. Have a great trading day!
