When buying cryptoassets* on eToro, you gain ownership of those assets.
eToro charges a straightforward, transparent fee of 1% for buying or selling crypto.
*Crypto trading is not available in NY, NV, HI, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands.
How it works
A standardized 1% commission is charged each time you buy or sell a cryptoasset on eToro. In the past, this fee was absorbed into crypto spread calculations, affecting the offered buy and sell prices. While this model allowed users to see the full impact of their crypto trades on their account balance, it made trade performance and trading costs more complex to determine.
As of mid-July 2025, these same crypto trading fees are shown as a separate cost prior to trade execution, and recorded under a separate line in both your portfolio and your account statements. When buying crypto, the 1% trading fee will be deducted from your available account balance. When selling crypto, the 1% fee will be deducted from the proceeds of your position.
Where the prices come from
eToro works with regulated partner companies who provide crypto trade execution and custody services. These partners typically purchase crypto through secondary market exchanges in order to ensure liquidity and market-leading prices. For more information, view eToro USA’s Customer Agreement.
Understanding the fee
Prior to the recent fee structure change, when buying a crypto asset, you would immediately see a loss in the position’s value. This is because the displayed profit and loss (“P/L”) included the 1% buy fee you just paid as well as the 1% sell fee you would pay when closing the position. The P/L would update in real time as market prices changed, but it would start at a loss due to the application of crypto fees.
As of mid-July 2025, crypto trading fees are no longer included in the spread calculation. Instead, they are now clearly displayed and charged separately at the time of the trade. You will see the fee amount upfront before completing your trade, and P/L will reflect only the true performance of your position.
Cryptoassets can also be transferred from the eToro platform to the eToro Money crypto wallet*. Click here for more information about crypto transfer fees and limits.
