The iShares MSCI South Korea ETF is an exchange traded fund that seeks to track the investment results of the MSCI Korea 25/50 Index, which is a stock market index composed of South Korean equities. The fund is managed by Blackrock, headquartered in New York City, which has been an ETF provider since 1997, offering over 300 different types of ETFs. This fund was established in 2000.
The fund primarily aims to provide investors with low cost, targeted exposure to a broad range of companies located in South Korea. The underlying index is a free float-adjusted market capitalisation-weighted index with a capping methodology applied to issuer weights, meaning that no single issuer exceeds 25% of the underlying index weight, and all issuers with a weight above 5% do not cumulatively exceed 50% of the underlying index weight.
The fund will generally invest at least 80% of its assets in the securities of its underlying index and in depositary receipts representing securities in its underlying index. The iShares MSCI South Korea ETF is listed on the NYSE where it trades under the stock ticker EWY.
