iShares Short Treasury Bond ETF was launched on 5 January 2007. This exchange traded fund is managed by BlackRock, Inc., and aims to follow the performance of component securities in its benchmark, the ICE Short US Treasury Securities Index.
The treasury securities monitored by the index make up a particular category of public debt instruments issued by the US government. They are bonds that are due to mature in one year or less. The iShares Short Treasury Bond ETF monitors these index components and invests the lion’s share of its resources in the securities included in the index. The fund also invests in other US Treasury securities that will enable it to mirror its benchmark. The fund’s holdings are a mix of treasury notes, bonds, and bills. The fund lends itself to passive investing, being benchmarked against an index that tracks relatively stable securities.
Investors can use the fund to access a generally low-risk category of securities and adapt their exposure in the US Treasury market to their own risk tolerance levels. The fund’s base currency is the US dollar. The iShares Short Treasury Bond ETF is listed on the NASDAQ, where it trades under the ticker SHV.
