Ishares MSCI Australia ETF EWA

iShares MSCI Australia ETF seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of large and mid-sized Australian equities. Founded in 1996, the fund is operated by BlackRock, which is headquartered in New York City.

iShares MSCI Australia ETF primary goal is to track the MSCI Australia Index, which measures the performance of the Australian equity market. As the index encapsulates a variety of companies with varying degrees of capitalisation, it’s able to capture about 85% of publicly available markets, aside from most small-caps. The index predominantly focuses on finance and non-energy minerals, but also includes transportation, retail trade, energy minerals, and health technology. As of November 2022, investors will find BHP Group Ltd, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, CSL Limited and the National Australia Bank Limited among the EWA top holdings. The base currency of this fund is USD.

The index includes securities that are Australian, but also companies who are headquartered, listed, or carry out the majority of their operations within the country. As such, the fund typically engages in securities lending which in turn brings in revenue to the fund at the cost of slight counterparty risk. Available on the NYSE, the iShares MSCI Australia ETF is listed under the ticker EWA.
