Origin Materials is a leading American carbon negative materials company. The firm develops and commercializes low carbon materials and manufacturing technology, with the aim of producing environmentally sustainable materials that can be used in the packaging, automotive, construction and textiles industries.
Origin was founded in 2008 with the aim of decarbonising the international materials industry, and has gained support and investment from many major global companies and investors, such as Nestlé, PepsiCo, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, and Danone. The firm utilises wood cellulose from sustainably harvested timber, as well as agricultural and wood waste, which is then converted into usable, carbon negative materials. Headquartered in Sacramento, California, Origin collaborates with clients and companies across the globe, and operates a demonstration scale facility, with the aim of further developing commercial production centres by 2025.
In June 2021, Origin completed a merger with SPAC Artius Acquisition. The company is now listed on the NASDAQ, where it trades under the ticker AACQ.
