The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the investment results of the Health Care Select Sector Index, which aims to provide an effective representation of the health care sector of the S&P 500 Index. The fund is managed by State Street Global Advisors, which is part of State Street Corporation, a major wealth management firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts that has been in operation since 1978. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund was established in 1998.

The fund aims to provide investors with exposure to companies in various sectors within the healthcare industry including pharmaceuticals, healthcare equipment, supplies and medical devices, healthcare providers and services, biotechnology, life sciences tools and services, and other healthcare technologies and services. The ETF offers traders a solid thematic investment option in the US healthcare sector. It is affected by changes in individual stocks within its composition, as well as market events related to the sector.

The fund generally invests substantially all, but at least 95%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund is listed on the NYSE under the stock ticker XLV.
