CLP HOLDINGS (00002.HK) is a Hong Kong-based electrical utility company. The company is one of the oldest electrical utilities in the world with a history that goes back to its founding in 1901 as the China Light and Power Co. Ltd. Today, CLP provides 80% of Hong Kong’s electricity, as well as runningpower generation, transmission and distribution, and electricity and gas retail activitiesin Australia, India, mainland China, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. As well as generating and distributing electricity and gas as utilities.
CLP is also involved in the nuclear power sector through its Hong Kong Nuclear Investment Company Ltd. Subsidiary, which has an ownership stake in the Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company Ltd.
CLP Holdings listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1986, changing its name from China Light & Power Co. to the abbreviated version in the process. In 2013, the company was included in the Global Dow index which tracks 150 of the world’s leading blue chip companies. It’s also a constituent of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index and the Dow Jones Asia Pacific Sustainability Index.
