Ballard Power Systems Inc. is a global clean technology company engaged in the development and provision of a range of innovative clean energy solutions. Originally established in 1979 as Ballard Research Inc., the firm has its corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Canada. It serves an international audience with offices across the globe and central hubs in Europe, the US, and China. Ballard focuses on fuel cell power products and other clean energy technology solutions for markets such as heavy-duty motive, portable power, material handling, and engineering.

Subsidiaries of the firm include Ballard Power Systems Europe, which was acquired as Dantherm Power in 2010, and Protonex Technology Corporation. The company formed a joint venture with Guangdong Nation Synergy Hydrogen Power Technology Co Ltd in 2016 to produce fuel cell stacks in China. Ballard also works in collaboration with Seimens on a long-term development agreement to power its Mireo commuter trains.

The company was awarded the GreenTech 2017 Prize in recognition of its work powering Europe’s largest fuel cell bus fleet in Aberdeen, Scotland. The firm has been traded on the NASDAQ since 1995 and is listed under the ticker BLDP.
